Augusta voters get a jump on election through advance voting

AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) They were getting done with their big decisions, hundreds of voters flocking to Augusta’s municipal building to cast ballots on the first day of advance voting.

“I don’t think this is a fluke I don’t think things will slow down as we get closer I think we’ll see things getting busier each day moving forward that’s always the case in a presidential election year,” said Richmond County Elections Director Lynn Bailey.

Voters we talked to say they wanted to get their vote out of the way as soon as they could.

“I want to be able to sleep at night just kidding that why I want to go ahead and vote so I don’t forget about it I don’t have anything that comes in the way of voting,” said Linda Seebode.

“I was primarily trying to avoid the crowds I also like the fact it was over for me,” said Mary Brooks

Voters are casting ballots as Republican presidential Candidate Donald Trump speaks of voter fraud and a rigged election so do voters think their election in Augusta will be done right.

“Yes I hope so they have in the past so I’m hoping they still will do,” said Seebode

You’re not concerned about fraud,”

“No” she said.

“I have faith in the system I believe it is fair and I believe the people will speak,” said Brooks.

“The voting equipment it’s self is very secure very safe very well protected,” said Bailey.

“Are you dismayed that’s its being floated out there and the impact on people voting?”

“No I’m not it’s an election year so you have a lot of allegations being floated out there left and right,” said Bailey.

Advance voting will be only at the Municipal Building until October 28th

On Saturday the 29th three satellite polling places Diamond lakes, Brigham Center and Warren Road will open and they will remain open until November fourth.

There will be a Sunday advance voting on the 30th but only the Municipal Building.
