AUGUSTA,Ga (WJBF) Augusta’s long time plan to move its city bus maintenance operation to Lumpkin Road has ended.
The city has agreed to a land swap with the board of education to take over the old movie Theater site off of Regency Boulevard for the maintenance building. The city spent more than 3 million dollars on the original location off Lumpkin road. That land will now be transferred to the school board. City leaders say the new site provides a better location for the bus barn.
“”It’s a good site for the facility it’s convenient to the public and like I said it will add to the neighborhood in that Rocky Creek,” says Commissioner Dennis Williams.
The city hopes to break ground on the new bus barn by next spring.
The old bus barn site off Walton Way will be part of Augusta’s University’s new gateway redesign once the city relocates its maintenance facility.
