AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)– Celebrating mothers for the amazing things they do was at the top of the to-do list for the Augusta Dream Center.
Kellie Cardona, Director of Augusta Dream Center, says “this time last year we were in a drive-thru so we were just serving to-go meals. It just wasn’t the same. We didn’t have that gathering of people and that connection that we all need.”
The Dream Center cooked up a warm meal, hoping to reach the hearts of mothers in CSRA. And with each bite, there was a chance to bond with strangers sharing a table and conversation.
Angela Colbert, who attended event, says “they do this out of their own time, and I’m just honored that they do and just grateful for them to serve the people.”
Volunteers from Stevens Creek Church and the Dream Center prepared plates and gave out gift bags as a special thank you to all the women who gave life.
Marlin Scarboro, a volunteer from The Augusta Dream Center, says “we want this to be like a restaurant experience even though it’s free, we want them to feel like they are coming to a catered event not a soup kitchen. Our heart is we want them to feel like our honored guests.”
And don’t worry dads out there, plans for Father’s are already in the works.
“We’re going to be cooking steaks for the men just trying to make it real manly, you know?, Kellie Cardona says.
And until it’s time for the guys to grab their utensils, these moms were all feeling…
“Full…laughs…Full…,” says Angela Colbert.
