Aiken County Animal Shelter suffers minor fire after lightning strike

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Officials with the Aiken Department of Public Safety have stated that the building has only suffered minor damages.

Shelter volunteers were able to put the fire out before crews arrived.

Investigators say lightning caused the fire.

No injuries to the animals or volunteers are reported and the facility will reopen shortly.

Animals are currently being evacuated from shelter.
