Shawn Cabbagestalk

Shawn Cabbagestalk came to NewsChannel 6 by way of our sister station WCBD in Charleston, South Carolina. He's currently the South Carolina bureau reporter for WJBF.
 
Shawn majored in Broadcast Journalism and Sociology at the University of South Carolina. During his time at USC, Shawn worked as a master control operator at WBHQ-TV, the former WB television station in the Columbia area.
 
After leaving television for a short time, Shawn started working at WCBD as a production technician. He later became a photojournalist, a producer, an assignment editor, and finally the digital content manager.
 
As a photojournalist, Shawn received a South Carolina Broadcasters Association scholarship to attended a week-long seminar for television reporters at the Poynter Institute of Media Studies in St Petersburg, Florida.  He was the only photographer in a room of reporters/anchors from newsrooms worldwide learning better storytelling techniques and how to expand viewer reach with emerging technology.
 
Being diverse, Shawn has print and multimedia skills as well after serving as a freelance web editor at his hometown newspaper, The Manning Times.
 
Shawn also had the opportunity to work in radio at WXST, Star 99.7. There, he learned the inner workings of the radio business after training with one of the most identifiable voices in urban adult contemporary genre in the Charleston market, Tessa Spencer-Adams.
 
Shawn frequently volunteers. He has volunteered with Lowcountry AIDS Services and the annual “Birthday Party for a Jesus,” outreach event hosted by Without Walls Ministry & Hope Assembly of God, as well as various Charleston-area “Convoy of Hope” initiatives.
 
He enjoying networking, mentoring, and serving opportunities.
