The Columbia County Health Department and the Georgia Department of Public Health have confirmed the testing of a rabid cat found in Martinez.

The cat was found on Thursday in the area of The Pass and Fury’s Ferry Road.

It was found injured, attempting to cross the road.

A passerby brought it to a nearby veterinary clinic.

The cat was euthanized and taken for testing.

Residents in this area should avoid contact with any stray or wild animals and should make sure that their pets are current on vaccinations.
