The THANKS MOM & DAD FUND, INC. honors parents, grandparents and mentors by supporting programs and services for older adults.
It was created by the Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging and formed in cooperation with The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.
In February, it awarded grants to fill service gaps to 61 nonprofit organizations serving seniors across the state. Among services provided are home-delivered meals, music therapy, outdoor exercise programs, and transportation. In our area: Carrie J. An estimated 12,000 seniors in Georgia are on waiting lists for vital services, services that will keep them from premature institutionalization. Your gift-no matter how large or small-makes a difference. A $20 donation, for example, can provide: four home-delivered meals to a homebound widow, or two hours of respite for a family caregiver of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease, or a round-trip to take a frail veteran to the doctor.
