Yerby Film Festival at Paine College

On Wednesday, Augusta 5th Paine college remembered one of its most famous graduates on what would have been his 102nd birthday.

Frank Yerby was born and raised in Augusta and graduated from Paine College.

He went on to write more than 40 books and became the first African American to have a motion picture based on one of his novels.

Wednesday night members of the Augusta Literary Festival held the first “Yerby Film Festival”.

They wanted to recognize the author’s birthday and expose residents to his work.

The 7th Annual Augusta Literary Festival is coming up in March 2019.

Authors from around the southeast will be participating.

Also, the “Yerby Award For Fiction” will be announced the week before the festival.
