Seventeen teams with 75 people. That is the number of volunteers we have to raise funds for Relay For Life in Abbeville and McCormick counties. That is a very small number to meet the need of 34,638 people in these counties.
These volunteers are doing everything they can to raise funds that will impact not only these two counties but the world by providing much needed research, along with education about cancer, such as the need for children to receive the HPV vaccine, lodging for patients close to major medical facilities during treatment, transportation to cancer treatments and 24/7 information and assistance from our call center.
Such a great need and so few to make it happen. But, that can all change with your help. Please go to relayforlife.org/abbevillesc and sign up today. If you do not have a computer, no problem. Just call 1-800-227-2345 and press option 2. When you talk to one of our specialists, let them know you are signing up for Relay For Life of Abbeville, S.C.
We are asking our survivors to join us too. You can also sign up using your computer or by calling the 800 number. Your participation on a Relay team and being at the event are so important to the volunteers. It allows them and the public to see the faces of mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters and many others who have dealt with this disease.
If you are still not convinced you need to participate, just look at the ones you love and ask, what if? So, what will you do? Read this and put it aside or act to help people in your community.
On Monday, March 18, we will have our next Relay For Life meeting at Long Cane Volunteer Fire Department. It is located at 5 Durham Rd. just off Hwy. 72 in Abbeville. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Please contact Hoyt Dorn, senior community manager with the American Cancer Society at 864-871-4210 or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
