Single vehicle crash claims life in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) — One person is dead following a single vehicle crash in Burke County, Georgia.

Authorities say the incident happened at Four Points Road and Old Waynesboro Road at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 6.

We’re told the driver, 33-year-old Alicia Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed and failure to maintain lane were contributing factors, according to Burke County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Burke County Emergency Management and Georgia Department of Public Safety all responded.

This is the fourth fatality in Burke County of 2019.  Officials say three of the incidents were single vehicle crashes where speed was the primary contributing factor.
