Sheriff Richard Roundtree with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has announced the establishment of a statewide Explosives K-9 training center in Augusta.

The training center will be at the previous Richmond County training range.

The goal of the training center is to become the premiere training site for K-9’s while working with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security.

K-9 training will be conducted at various times of the year and be a hands-on approach to training in explosives detection, post blast training, training with both explosives technicians and equipment present, and evidence recovery.

It will also be the primary training site for explosive K-9’s assigned to the 2019 Superbowl in Atlanta.
