Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree wants the county’s Marshal’s Office to stop conducting traffic escorts.

Roundtree sent Marshal Ramone  Lamkin a letter dated May 1st ordering the Marshal to stop those escorts as well as the leapfrogging of patrol cars and stopping traffic at intersections.

The letter goes on to cite two incidents, where the Sheriff says the Marshal provided these escorts.

One was during Masters week. The other was during the JD Paugh Memorial Ride on April 28th.

No public response yet from the Marshal, but we asked Mayor Pro-tem Mary Davis if the commission should get involved.

“I don’t think this is something the commission is going to get involved in. I think they need to sit down and work it out and see exactly which duties fall under which area,” said Davis.
