Augusta’s goats need some help.
For about five years now, the city of Augusta has been using goats to help clear weeds and grass from retention ponds.
The Engineering Department says the program has not been effective and is recommending spending $21 thousand dollars to hire a goat herder to oversee it.
Commissioner Marion Williams likes using the goats, but not the idea of getting a goat herder.
“No, I need some of these goat heads to start herding these goats we already got. We don’t need to get a crew to come in, we got some people around here who could do the same thing. You hire a company and they do it,” said Commissioner Marion Williams.
Commissioners took no action on the goat program Tuesday. Williams says he’ll bring the issue up again at the next commission meeting.
