Many visitors traveling to the Garden City during the Masters will choose to stay in hotels while others will choose an online housing rental. Before companies like AirBnb, The Masters Housing Bureau was considered one of the only places to receive southern hospitality outside of a traditional hotel.
Now even more online housing rental companies have emerged such as Made Fore a Pro and Vacation Rental by Owner.
Although The Masters Housing Bureau is the only company sanctioned by the Augusta National, Its director Jonathan Rios says what people love most about online housing is for the home away from home experience.
“Because of the fact that renters are renting homes, it gives them a more inviting feel when they come in. It shows the great southern hospitality that we have here in Augusta. That’s one of the reasons why people choose to go through home accommodations instead of hotels,” Rios said.
To apply to rent out your home the process includes uploading photos and detailed information about your home ranging from the number of bedrooms down to appliances.
Nearly ten years ago Gabby Benton began renting out her home during Masters week through Craigslist. After a successful renting experience, Benton began helping friends in her neighborhood rent their homes as well. After noticing the amount of revenue homeowners were making during Masters, Benton decided to create a local Business, Made Fore a Pro, that offers housing rentals for visitors to the Garden City.
“The reason why this is such a popular thing to do here is because right now it is tax-free. It pays for peoples mortgages throughout the year in some cases,” Benton said.
In the state of Georgia, a person can rent their home tax-free for up to two weeks. Benton says although it’s a great way to earn extra income, the hardest part about renting your home for masters is preparing your home.
“I’ve found that the trick is to stay on task and start working earlier in the year. Make sure to check off your list and keep your maintenance man around throughout the year so you’re not going crazy during Masters week,” Benton said.
For those in need of housing during Masters week, there are still rentals available online. Housing Contracts for Masters 2019 begin in May. For more information visit Made Fore a Pro or Masters Housing Bureau
