Augusta city leaders approved more money for the Lock and Dam fight.
Commissioners approved an increase to the consultant budget by $100 thousand dollars.
This will pay the money owned to two engineering firms and pay for continued efforts to convince the corps of engineers to save Lock and Dam.
“I think we have to do this, but I think we got other entities…North Augusta, Columbia County…other entities that are involved in this. We shouldn’t be putting in the majority of the money. I was disappointed because we didn’t find out until later,” says Commissioner Marion Williams.
Utilities Department Director Tom Wiedmeier says he has reached out to North Augusta’s Mayor to discuss its financial contribution.
