BARNWELL, S.C. (WJBF) — Barnwell’s newest mayor will be sworn in on Monday afternoon.

Marcus Rivera will be sworn in at City Hall in the Chamber of Commerce building at 5:30 p.m.

We’re told following the ceremony, a drop-in reception in his honor will take place at Whitney’s of Barnwell from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Marcus Rivera defeated City Councilman Billy Dozier by a vote of 497-393 for the seat in a special election Tuesday, March 12.

Retirement options forced former Mayor Dr. Edward Lemon to down in January after nearly 22 years in the top spot.
