Work is about to get underway on a long awaited project in downtown Augusta.
After more than five years of discussions, crews are beginning the preliminary work for the pedestrian bridge across Reynolds Street.
The skywalk will link the Reynolds Street parking deck to the Convention Center.
“As you know, Reynolds Street is pretty fast paced. So for pedestrians who are parking in the parking garage, they’ll be able to walk across the street safely going through an enclosed pedestrian bridge,’ says Takiyah Douse, the Director of Central Services.
The bridge costs $1.2 million dollars and will have an electronic message board on it.
The work should be finished in January.
