AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) — A new senior and youth center is now open in Aiken in Eustis Park.
“To experience this from what it was to where it is now …What can I say?,” Joe Hamilton told NewsChannel 6’s Shawn Cabbagestalk.
Hundreds attended the official opening of the Lessie B. Price Senior and Youth Center Wednesday. City council adopted a resolution naming it after the longtime councilwoman.
“It’s been a long-awaited time it’s been 15 years,” Councilwoman Lessie Price said.
The building is state of the art with a more than 12,000 square foot recreation and event rental space, kitchen, computer lounge, and an enrichment classroom.
“Whether you’re two years old, or 20 years old, or 50 years old or 100 years old there are activities you can enjoy, “Councilwoman Price added.
“I love the enrichment room down there. I’m a retired school teacher for Aiken County for 34 years so to see them having educational aspects here as well as all of the lessons that they are going to offer seniors and youth, it’s a win-win as far as I’m concerned,” Carolyn McFadden said.
City leaders say Councilwoman Price was an obvious choice to name the building after being at the forefront of a number of significant city initiatives.
The facility will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rentals will be available in 6-hour increments on weekends.with a number of fitness classes and enrichment activities for you.
“I like the facility because it offers so much. We have rec rooms which I’m sure eventually some in our class will take advantage of it. And it’s just a beautiful place. The parking is great, the ambiance is great and I just love it. It’s going to be a great place for everybody to enjoy.”
Plans for the senior and youth center were approved thanks to the Capital Projects Sales Tax II. Construction wrapped up earlier this month.
