The Jefferson County Deputy involved in a serious car accident is on the mend.

NewsChannel 6 spoke with Sheriff Gary Hutchins today, he says the deputy is still in the hospital in Augusta—but is healing.

Sheriff Hutchins tells us, deputy James Kitchens doesn’t remember much about the accident but he is awake and talking with his family.

A deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was injured during a single car crash. 

A colonel with the Sheriff’s Office reports Sgt. James Kitchens flipped his work car multiple times on Highway 88 near Amelia Lane. 

It happened Saturday just before 5 o’clock.  

He was taken to Augusta University Medical Center with injuries.  

The Sheriff says this crash is connected to the activity seen at Wrens Memorial Airport.
