Investigators called to Grovetown home after reports of pipe bombs

Grovetown, GA (WJBF)- A Grovetown man is behind bars after multiple agencies search his home for pipe bombs Tuesday night.

James Richard Grates II was arrested for being in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office there were devices found within the home, but it was determined by investigators there was no immediate threat. DFACS alerted law enforcement after a visit to the home on Tuesday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is continuing to investigate the explosive and drugs allegedly found at the home on Lakeview Drive and more charges could be forthcoming.

Officers are at a home in Grovetown, Georgia investigating reports of pipe bombs.

The Grovetown Police Department, and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office have responded to a house on Lakeview Drive.

The call came after a DFACS worker visited the home earlier.  

At least one fire truck, the bomb squad and several other vehicles are there.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office tells NewsChannel 6 there are no direct threats at this time.
