Higher Street light fees go to committee

CSRA News

Two proposals  for new street light fees is expected to go before Augusta commissioners next week. A commission sub-committee is looking to make up a more than one million dollar shortfall  in the street light budget.

Both  proposals  would increase fees, for home owners to about 100 dollars a year, and city leaders say the fee’s need to be approved this year.

“Do you feel there’s time ticking here this needs to be done this year?
“Yes it has to be done, we still have a street light bill that we have to pay for 2018 we got to pay that so we’re required to get it done that’s he that’s the purpose of the government,” says Commissioner Sammie Sias.

Some of members of the subcommittee say the city should renegotiate its contracts with the power companies to get a lower rate before raising the fees on taxpayers.
