AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) As Black History Month comes to a close and Americans look forward to celebrating Women making historic strides, Augusta University and the city of Augusta have taken the time to honor one of its own outstanding African-American women.
Dr. Bobbilynn Hawkins is being honored for her groundbreaking work in urological research, as well as for her loyalty as a 10 year member of the faculty at Augusta University’s Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Hawkins’ accomplishments are well renowned and listed as:
- Urology Professor
- Biotechnology & Genomics Professor
- Director of Spinal Cord Urology
- Female Urology at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center
Among Dr. Hawkins many local accomplishments, and one she carries with great pride, is the Nation’s first African-American full professor of urology and 6th female urologist that carries certification. She is also the first woman urologist in the United States Army having served more than 30 years as a military command surgeon and earning the rank of Colonel and serving in the Gulf War.
