There’s a growing danger on the Savannah River.

We told you this weekend about the 50 foot house boat that sank in the middle of the river, near the boathouse.

The worry is the wreck is sinking lower in the water making it more difficult for others on the water to see it.

The Riverkeeper says this is an accident waiting to happen.

“Has it been hit yet?”

“It has been hit. So it was hit over the weekend. In fact some pieces are missing off of it. I hope that person is okay and so it’s becoming even more of a hazard because even less of it now is sticking out but all of it is right beneath the surface,” says Savannah Riverkeeper Tonya Bonitatibus.

The Georgia DNR has been in contact with the District Attorney’s office to look at ways to get the boat moved, saying it will be very expensive.

The boat was insured but the DNR says it will  not cover the cost of raising the boat.
