AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — Barbie said it best when she said, “Girls can be anything!” Several girls were able to “Dream Big,” learning all about engineering from the pros in Augusta.
The Society of Women Engineers and the MACH Academy put on the “Girl Dream Big Event”.
About 20 girls, with the youngest being five-years-old, learned from mentors about the different facets of engineering as well as built marshmallow towers to simulate what civil engineers experience on the job.
“Right now, the statistics show that only 14 percent of engineers are women,” Diana Berry of Society of Women Engineers told NewsChannel 6’s Shawn Cabbagestalk. “So we need more women nationally that gets into the stem field. We at the society of women engineers we think this is the age that we should start reaching out to them,” she added.
The Society of Women Engineers Central Savannah River Area Section puts on several events throughout the year.
