The Georgia Department of Transportation will begin brine surfacing of major roads in Georgia ahead of freeze predictions.

The salt-water brine spray will begin Monday night at 7:00pm and will also begin on Tuesday night at 7:00pm according to GDOT spokesman, Kyle Collins.

GDOT will be spraying in the following areas:

  • I-20 from Newton County to Augusta
  • I-520 (Bobby Jones Expressway)
  • Primary state routes north of I-20
  • Bridges and overpasses south to the I-16 corridor

The Georgia Department of Transportation asks that travelers please be cautious of the brine trucks in this area as they must travel at lower speeds for the most effective brine coverage.  GDOT also reminds drivers to remain attentive to the possibility of black ice even in areas that receive little to no snow accumulation as temperatures drop.  Black ice is especially possible on bridges and overpasses.
