Shots rang out in downtown Augusta early 2019 St. Patrick’s Day morning leaving four people injured.
“I see this man reach around, he got a gun. Oh, I’m gone! Pop! Pop! Pop! Oh, somebody done got shot,” said Alex Michael King.
24-year-old Muntreze Roundtree shot at a group of people that followed him from Dr. Unks on Broad Street. Next, a fight broke out, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Anthony, who is a medical supplies salesman said, “Definitely, violence it’s bad when you’re drinking it gets elevated. It’s not a good thing.”
“It’s crazy what the world is coming to. You can’t even sit at the bar, have a drink without somebody trying to shoot at you. Somebody getting in an argument. I mean, really and truly if humans want to be so vicious we need to set up a gladiator arena and just go let us do all that,” added King.
The four people who were shot are all between the ages of 22 and 35-years-old.
“There’s places you don’t want to be at night but this is nowhere near close to that level so violence should be a lot lower here compared to places like that,” said Anthony.
King explained, “I’m just trying to walk. Have me a drink. Every now and then I come out here with my guitar play me a couple of tunes and everything. Not bothering nobody and I don’t expect somebody to bother me but if somebody bothers me what am I suppose to do?”
“That’s what everyone is fighting about so it’s really people just have to use common sense and know when to stop drinking in terms of what may of happened last night but just goto use common sense,” said Anthony.
King added, “Ya’ll better pay attention to what our ancestors said because this crazy stuff that’s happening, people not being able to hold their temper, they’re going shooting up stuff, all these natural disasters, it was predicted and it’s happening now.”
Roundtree was charged with aggravated assault and he is of no relation to Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree.
The four people who were injured in the shooting were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
