Former Aiken Public Safety Chief Dies

J. Carrol Busbee, Sr., who was the first person to lead Aiken’s Department of Public Safety, has died, at age 86 according to a Facebook post by the Department of Public Safety.

Chief Busbee was named Aiken Fire Chief in 1964.  He held that job until 1970, when he was named the first Director of Public Safety.

He retired as Director of Public Safety in 1999.

The new public safety building will be named in his honor.
