AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — Officials are working to determine was caused a fire at an abandoned funeral home in Augusta.
Just after 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, firefighters responded to the former Dent’s Funeral Home on D’Antignac Street. Once on scene, “they found an intense fire and began immediate search and rescue operations from what part of the building they could access,” officials said.
Firefighters also found a dog and pulled it to safety. It survived and is in the custody of animal control.
There are no other reports of injuries.
The building has been abandoned for roughly a decade. We’re told it was built in 1900.
