The Swainsboro Fire Department responded to a residential fire at the 500 block of Claxton Avenue this morning around 3:00am.
Two people were able to escape the fire, however 63-year-old Irwin Woods and a 16-year-old were killed in the fire.
The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen. There were no smoke detectors found in the home. This case remains under investigation as the cause has not been determined due to the severity of the damage.
Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office, the Swainsboro Police Department, the Swainsboro Fire Department, and the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office are working together on the investigation.
