GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WJBF) – Eight people were laid to rest at the Graniteville Cemetery, Friday, May 10.
It was apart of the Aiken County Coroner’s Office Annual Pauper Burial Service.
The office puts on the event for those who either gone unclaimed or funds were not available for their funeral arrangements.
Nearly five dozen people attended the event. We spoke with one Graniteville man about his loved one buried during the service, William Edwards Matthews.
“He was reliable to me,” Booker T. Holmes told NewsChannel 6’s Shawn Cabbagestalk. “We used to golf sometime he used to come and cut my grass , water the flowers and everything like that he’ll do while we’re gone. Since he’s family couldn’t be here, I just wanted to be a part of it,” he added.
The Coroner’s Office has been providing the service since 1999.
