AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – One person is dead and others injured after a police pursuit ended in a crash on Wrightsboro Road in Augusta.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash.

Richmond County Deputies were reportedly involved in a chase with a Lincoln Towncar, Saturday night at 9:30 p.m., with a vehicle when the accident happened.

The Lincoln reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of Wrightsboro and Troupe Street when it struck a Toyota 4Runner. The Lincoln then caught fire.

The driver of the car, 50-year-old Raymond Allen of Elberton, Ga., was extricated from the vehicle by deputies. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:55 p.m.

The individuals in the 4Runner were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The 4Runner driver was Aquinas football coach, James Leonard. His wife and child were in the car. Their son was unharmed.

Both were released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
