One person has died and two others injured in a crash on Highway 25 just south of the Richmond County-Burke County line.
According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, a Ford truck driven by James Houghbook, 64, of Sardis was traveling south on Highway 25 in the right hand lane approaching Campbell Circle. A second vehicle driven by Jordan Youngblood, 20, of Hephzibah was traveling west on Allen Road and attempted to cross Highway 25 going towards Campbell Circle. Investigators say Youngblood’s vehicle pulled into the path of Houghbook’s truck.
The Sheriff’s Office says Coty Smith, 25, of Hephzibah died at the scene. He was a passenger in Youngblood’s vehicle. Houghbook and Youngblood were taken to Augusta University Medical Center. Houghbook was in critical condidtion, Youngblood in serious condition upon arrival at the hospital.
