Giving tourists free booze is raising some concerns with Augusta city leaders.
As we first reported the Convention and visitors bureau is asking for changes to city liquor laws so it can give out free samples of local craft beer and spirits at its downtown office.
But what some commissioners wanted to know is how big will these samples be, and how many will tourists be able to toss back.
“It is our intention to be able to provide just small samples so we’re thinking maybe two or three ounces or less if they want more than one beer we’ll have to write up what we are willing to give and allow but it would never be anything that would allow someone to sit and drink here all day,” said Jennifer Bowen of the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The CVB is hoping commissioners can approve the changes in time to allow the samples to begin Masters week.
