Committee wants Amphitheater at Lake Olmstead

Some commissioners want the show to go on at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The final lease with the GreenJackets runs out in in two weeks and it’s no longer needed for baseball.

A commission committee approved this afternoon to officially support renovating the stadium as an amphitheater.

But some are not ready to go that far right now.

“What I would have to see first is some kind of recommendation from experts, is this needed, do we need another amphitheater and will it be used? I know it’s a costly decision if we go that route. I’m not 100 percent convinced that’s where we need to go,” says Mayor Pro-Tem Mary Davis.

Officials estimated it would cost some $10 million dollars to renovate the stadium into a first class amphitheater.
