A proposed new freeway has the support of Augusta leaders.
The new interstate dubbed I-14 would run from its existing location in Texas, across the south to Georgia, connecting the cities of Columbus, Macon and Augusta.
The Commission resolution is to support it in the event funding for the roadway is approved.
“One thing we would have a direct route between Augusta, Macon and Columbus. I think linking those three cities would be a huge for Augusta, also the fact that it starts in Augusta and ends in Augusta. We know where multiple interstates run through cities we see the growth in those cities. So I think that is definitely a positive thing,” said Commissioner Brandon Garrett.
Commissioners meet with state lawmakers on Thursday and will see the legislative delegation’s support for the interstate as well.
