Commission doesn’t act for Juvenile Court

CSRA News

Augusta city leaders apparently don’t want to rush into creating a new juvenile court.

Judge Carl Brown is requesting the city cancel the bid for an evaluation of renovating the old Law Enforcement Center for family court.

Judge Brown says a task force of construction experts has already done an evaluation for free, so bringing in an outside firm just delays moving forward.

“That’s one of the real concerns, that could take another two to three months to get done. We just don’t have that kind of time, there’s urgency,” says Chief Judge Carl Brown.

The commission wants to continue the process, what happens now?

“They received it as information. Let’s hope they do the right thing,” says Judge Brown.

The city procurement department warned commissioners against stopping the bid process. Now out of concerns, it could open the city to legal action.
