An Augusta commissioner is again trying to change the name of a major city roadway.
The motion before city leaders Wednesday would change the name of the Calhoun Expressway to Veterans expressway.
Commissioner Bill Fennoy is pushing the name change because of Calhoun’s pro-slavery history.
The proposal is back before commissioners even though it was voted down just six weeks ago.
“Something needs to happen with the name change of the expressway If it doesn’t pass this time, at some point I’m going to put it back on there again,” says Commissioner Bill Fennoy.
Commissioner Fennoy first proposed changing the name of the expressway over a year ago and commissioners have voted down the idea three different times.
