Augusta will research medical marijuana

CSRA News

Augusta leaders are keeping their options open on growing medical marijuana.

Commissioners asked the Law Department to research whether the city can use its land to grow pot for medical purposes.

Though looking can’t hurt, some commissioners are not too high on the idea.

“I couldn’t help but think about the band the Doobie Brothers. We could make Augusta’s theme song the Lynyrd Skynyrd song “Woo That Smell” You know I don’t think we should get into the marijuana business,” said a laughing Commissioner John Clake.

According to the bill signed last month by the Governor, having the land wouldn’t help Augusta.

The bill says the marijuana must be grown indoors, and the facility must have 24-7 security.
