NewsChannel 6 has learned Augusta Recreation and Parks Director Glenn Parker has resigned.
Parker turned in his resignation, Monday.
Parker’s department and the entire city’s response has been under intense scrutiny since October. That’s when 12-year-old Melquan Robinson was killed after he touched an electrified fence at an Augusta park.
Two weeks ago, Robinson’s family filed a notice of intent to sue with the city. They say the fence did not have grounding wire, and electrical work did not meet city code or the national electircal code.
The notice also claims city officials wer aware of the dangerous conditions for several years, and were negligent in getting them fixed.
Parker had been Augusta’s recreation director since 2015.
