Augusta mother indicted in death of autistic son dies

An Augusta woman charged in the death of her autistic son has died.

48-year-old Stephanie Jones Hawes was taken from the Webster Detention Center to University Hospital Monday morning where she died from a pre-existing medical condition.

Hawes was arrested and charged with Neglect of a Disabled Adult and Felony Murder in connection with the death of her son, 28-year-old Antoin Hawes Jr., who was found dead inside their home on Kissingbower Road on May 13th.

Antoin Hawes Sr. was also arrested under the same charges.
