It will be a blast in downtown Augusta tonight.

Crews were busy a top the Fifth Street Bridge preparing for the city’s annual fireworks show.

More than a half ton of explosives will be used during  the 18 minute performance.

The highlight will be the “fireworks waterfall”, a shower of sparks that will cascade over the side of the bridge.

“The waterfall is approximately 300 feet long across the face of the bridge. When the computer tells it to fire, it will fire and drop sparks 70 feet into the water, a curtain 300 foot long of fireworks. Beautiful absolutely beautiful, every time we shoot it the crowd goes crazy,” said Craig Butler of East Coast Pyrotechnics.

The is Butlers 28th year of orchestrating Augusta’s fireworks show.
