Augusta Commissioners say government promoting health with smoking ban proposal

Next week Augusta commissioners could be telling those who want to light up in bars or clubs to take it outside. 

A comprehensive smoking ban will be going before the full commission next week which outlaw smoking at most businesses.

The rules are facing opposition from many bar owners who say the local government should not be telling them what to do in their businesses. 

“They tell motorcycles they got to have a helmet, and this is for the safety and protection for the people who are operating the vehicle or people who may as far as smoking goes going in and out of bars,” says Commissioner Bill Fennoy. 

The proposed ordinance being pushed by Breatheasy Augusta and is based on what was approved in Savannah several years ago.
