Augusta Commission stays out of Sheriff, Marshal feud

Augusta city leaders want the city’s top two lawmen to work things out.

Earlier this month, Marshal Ramone Lamkin got a letter from Sheriff Richard Roundtree telling him to stop having his office perform traffic escorts.

The Sheriff says the escorts are dangerous and they’re not within the scope of the Marshal’s office duties.

We asked Augusta Commissioners if they feel they need to step into this battle.

“I don’t think this is something the commission is going to get involved in.  I think they need to sit down and work it out and see exactly which duties fall under which area,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Mary Davis.

Marshal Lamkin declined to comment on Sheriff Roundtree’s letter.
