All parks in City of Barnwell closed until further notice

BARNWELL, S.C. (WJBF) — All parks in the City of Barnwell are closed until further notice, city officials confirmed.

The move comes following a shooting Tuesday a home on Second Street that officials believe may be in retaliation for a shooting death that happened in Williston Sunday.

We’re told the closures are out of an abundance of caution.

Officials will reassess the park issue Monday, April 1.

Veggie Co-Op brings another option for fresh fruits, vegetables in Edgefield

EDGEFIELD, S.C. (WJBF) -- Twice a month, every month, Coral Street in Edgefield turns into a farmer's market. "It makes it real convenient," Andrea DeRemigio told NewsChannel 6's Shawn Cabbagestalk.

DeRemigio is one of the members of the Edgefield Veggie Co-Op. For her, joining the group just made sense. "Everybody comes together and we go in as a whole and purchase bulk vegetables at wholesale price versus retail price. So for 20 bucks per co-op, you get about $40 worth of vegetables," founder Samantha McClure added.

Concerns over the lack of social distancing during protests, demonstrations, and riots: Health experts say could result in a spike of COVID-19 cases in the summer

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) --- The "infamous second wave" in the fall was a concern for many health professionals. Now, they are predicting COVID-19 cases to increase in the summer because of warmer weather, protests, and riots.

"A lot of folks are going to protest in the big cities are not from there," said Dr. Jose Vazquez. "I predict what will happen; those people who were in those cities for several days, sharing who knows what, are going to go back home, and we are going to see spikes across the country."
