AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – A local woman is looking to bring healthy food options including keto to an area near you.
It’s a white building on Silver Bluff Road and soon, the smell of more options for you and your family.
“I want to take the stress out of our town. We are all so busy,” Jen Steller told NewsChannel 6’s Shawn Cabbagestalk.
Steller is a proud Aikenite. She said that her love of baking and a need for a new revenue stream pushed her to start a new adventure.
“[My husband] said Jen, you love to bake, you know, let’s do some baking on the side and see how it goes.”
Like many parents, she found that she was losing time with her family, just to cook dinner. “Then you have to fight with homework, get the kids in the bath and you’re exhausted,” she recalls.
The support of family and friends allowed her and her family to start working toward “A Steller Kitchen.”
“[My friend] said Jen, this low carb thing is really taking off and I miss my bread can you try and do a low carb bread, I said sure,” Steller said.
She has made many different items that some of you have tried. This location will provide you with casseroles made with healthy options such as keto.
“It’s fully cooked and frozen mostly low carb but I can do regular and they come with heating instructions. Within 30-45 minutes, you have a home-cooked meal on the table,” she added.
It’s set-up in a way to give you that precious time back with your loved ones.
The kitchen is already built with tables and chairs in a quaint dining area but a fork in the road threw a small wrench in her plans, at least for the short term.
“I didn’t know I wasn’t zoned for commercial food,” she said.
Now Steller needs your help to get the business officially up and running. City Council has allowed A Steller Kitchen to open and operate the business at the Silver Bluff Road location while the City reviews the application for rezoning leading to final approval.
“As far as a final vote, I need the help of the city of Aiken, the residents. I need neighbors, anyone. I just want to help bring something new to the community,” Steller added.
She says that it’s her love for Aiken that propelled her into this experience.
If any of you live in the Silver Bluff Road area, you can send Steller an email saying YES to A Steller Kitchen moving to 131 Silver Bluff Road you can send those messages to firstname.lastname@example.org. She’s also on Facebook.
There is no official opening date but her goal is to have it open around January 22. There is no word on when the Council hearing will be held. Count on WJBF NewsChannel 6 to keep you posted.
