Aiken teacher arrested on 5 counts of unlawful conduct towards children

An Aiken woman who worked at this sunshine house daycare was arrested on five counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.

On Monday April 22, an employeee at the center reported to the police of a possible abusive situtaion regarding one of the teachers. 

“The video shows Ms.Rainey allegedy striking a one year old child in the face with an open hand and throughout the rest of the video, you see Ms.Rainey pick up children kinda miss handle them by one arm and take them through various parts of the classroom and just kinda toss them down on the mat where they take their naps.”

Markita Rainey previously worked at the daycare on Summmerwood Way in Aiken. Law enforcement confirms Rainey was asked to leave the facility after staff memebers observed her behavior on the video footage. 

Parents of children at the facility were given a number to call if they have any questions or concerns. 

As you can see we’ve tried to contact them several times today and we have not been able to get in touch with anyone.

Aiken Department of Public Safety detective Jeremy Hembree says this is the first incident like this in Aiken and wants to encourage parents to -always- report activity they believe is suspicious.

“A one year old child is precious to everyone,that’s our future. Us as a community and from a law enforcement stand point , We are there biggest ally.”

Markita Rainey has been booked ast the Aiken County Detention center and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
