UPDATE, 7:41 P.M. – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has officially reported that they are investigating this incident as a murder-suicide.
According to authorities, deputies were dispatched to the home on Rennie Street after a caller reported finding his mother, Betty James, 86, and his brother, Joe James, 68, deceased inside the home from gunshot wounds.
According to the Coroner’s office, both mother and brother were pronounced dead on the scene from single gunshot wounds.
According to investigators, the investigation determined that Joe James shot his mother, Betty, and then, he turned the gun on himself taking his own life.
The coroner’s office says there will be an autopsy scheduled for Betty James, but there will not be one for Joe James.
GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WJBF) – The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is on the scene after reports of a shooting.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatch was called around 4:42 P.M. on Friday, May 12th.
