A follow up now to a story we brought you over the weekend involving animal cruelty and abandonment in Burke County.
These two pit bulls, one found in the trunk of a car during a traffic stop and the other found abandoned nearby, have been cleared by a local veterinarian and doing well with foster families.
The search is now on for the owner of the animals, as neither were outfitted with a microchip.
Two men were arrested during the incident, Dontravious Levines of Augusta and Reginald McGee have both been charged with animal cruelty and abandonment.
Levines has also been charged with various traffic offenses.
“We care deeply about animals as the large majority of our employees have pets, many of which they adopted from within our county. We do our best to follow up on all complaints, rumors, etc. and when applicable, apply the appropriate charges,” says Chief Lewis Blanchard.
