MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) — We now know two of the children involved in Friday’s Columbia County crash are in critical condition.

The wreck happened around 3:22 p.m. near the intersection of North Belair Road and Columbia Road.

Investigators tell NewsChannel 6 an 11-year-old and a 6-year-old are the ones in critical condition.

4 other children were also injured in the wreck.

Deputies say there were no child seats in the car.

The sheriff’s office is waiting on toxicology results before charging the driver, 46-year-old Tara McConnell.


MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says a six year-old girl suffered serious injuries in the crash Friday afternoon near the intersection of North Belair and Columbia Roads.

Officials say there were 6 children in the car. Five of the other children, ages 10-11, suffered minor injuries.

Investigators say the driver of the Honda Accord, Tara McConnell, 46, of Martinez, was at fault. Toxicology tests and charges are pending.


MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) — Six children ages six to eleven and one adult are at the hospital tonight after an accident at one of Martinez’s busiest intersections.

The children were riding in a late model Honda accord when it was hit by an oncoming pick up truck near the intersection of Columbia and Belair Roads.

According to deputies, the driver of the Honda was attempting to pull into a convenience store when the car was hit.

The conditions of the victims are not known at this time.


MARTINEZ, Ga. (WJBF) — Crews are currently on the scene of an accident on Columbia Road in Martinez.

We’re told the call came in at 3:22 this afternoon.

The accident was between two vehicles.

Six people were sent to the hospital as a result of the crash. No word on the extent of their injuries.

Traffic is currently down to one lane in the area.
