Art and music lovers will gather at The Alley in downtown Aiken on Saturday, May 4, from 10 am to 7 pm for Art the Alley.
“We are looking forward to five bands performing, 25 artists exhibiting, a flash mob, a yarn bombing, a cooking demonstration and a ‘Legally Blonde’ skit,” said Kim Rising, co-owner of Art & Soul of Aiken, host for the event.
The performing groups will be the Digital Vinyl band, Aiken Brass, the Bells Canto band, the South Boundary Singers and Bill Karp jazz vocalist. Artists will have for sale a variety of paintings, pottery, jewelry, candles and wood creations, according to Stacy O’Sullivan, co-owner of Art & Soul. The “Legally Blonde” skit will be performed by actors from the AECOM Theatre. The flash mob will be a surprise. A yarn bombing is street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fiber rather than paint or chalk. The cooking demonstration will be by Seeds Café.
Food and beverage will be available at restaurants in The Alley and others close by in downtown Aiken.
Art & Soul at 208 The Alley will be open during the event. An artist cooperative, Art & Soul is where 56 local artists display a wide range of art from stained and leaded glass to sculptures to pottery to paintings to wood creations. Local artisans showcase and sell their work at the gallery.
